Sankranti/ Uttarayan is the Hindu festival devoted to deity SUN. It marks the first day when sun’s transit into makar rashi (Capricorn), marking the end of the month with the winter solstice and the start of longer days. Along with the religious background, what kind of psychological importance do it posses? Let us find out!
Contemporaneous professor of Ruparel college, Mr. Keshav Vishnu Belsare sir (very scholar personality of Philosophy, Psychology and Logic), was discussing about some topics with his guru Gondawlekar Maharaj (spiritual guru from Gondawale village), when Maharaj very witfully said, that SANKRANTI (in literally means san+kranti i.e. revolution) is about the revolution of our mind. Revolution of the Mind which is constantly occupied by worries, anxiety, wants. Going beyond and above all this is SANKRANTI. (divine state of mind).
As J. Krishnamurthy once said, “The Only revolution is the inner revolution!”
Alike about our mind, when our knowledge, ideas, language etc. which we derive from our thoughts, emotions, behavior, memory, perception, nature, sacraments, wants and needs(mental) becomes dissonant and incongruent, not to be talked about divinity but mind becomes more unstable or disinterested.
Such rocky mind needs –
1 Self-realization/insight.
2 Unconditional acceptance of self.
3 Unconditional acceptance of others.
4 Being in present moment, regardless the past i.e. factors out of control. And
5 Mindfulness.
May it be the revolution of the sun or the mind, is never done in a day (Rome wasn’t built in a day!). It has its own process, day by day, little by little. But what matters is consistency. As a social animal or as an individual development, mental revolution is must.
In such progress or revolution, our family, friends, teachers, gurus or all other relatives can help us but as they say, you are your best friend and worst enemy, self is only source of reformation.
Our revolution/development/progress is the SANKRANTI in true sense. May this sankranti bring you the best transition of yourself and become fruitful.

That was a remarkable explaination and combination of revolution of thoughts and essence of sankranti… Never thought of such a relation of festivals it gives a new perspective to the festivals as well as psychology too
